Live Event: Single Moms and the Mental Load

Join us on LinkedIn Live, June 13 at 2 p.m. EST.

Researchers have increasingly turned their attention to the problem of the mental load—the emotional and cognitive work it takes to keep families and households running. Yet little is understood about how parents without partners cope with this work. Single motherhood is a reality of American life, workplaces, and communities. Today about 14 million children in the United States live in households headed by a single mother. Yet our policies, institutions, and culture, continue to operate as though these experiences are either rare or the purview of individuals to manage alone.

Join Work Life Everything co-founder Haley Swenson for a discussion with The Family Project’s Nicole Rodgers and Montclair State University Assistant Professor of Social Work Shaniqua Bradley. They’ll discuss the research on single mothers, their emotional and cognitive stress, and their systems for coping, and how we can change our society to better include and support all families.
