Christine Bader on Deep Work

What are the conditions that set you up for your best deep work?

“I'm teaching, starting to plan a 10th anniversary edition of my book; opining on whatever strikes me as needing opining. What enables me to do that? Kids in school. Breakfast eaten, a nice hot cup of coffee on the desk. Time blocked out in the calendar, knowing that everything else really can wait at least one hour. (But also a Post-It in the corner of the desk to jot anything down that I want to remember for later.)

Bonus: Reading fiction over breakfast before checking any devices (h/t Anne-Marie Slaughter for that one).”
