Jessica Grose on Deep Work
What are the conditions that set you up for your best deep work?
"Working from my bed first thing after I wake up. Right after that first cup of coffee hits, I am able to enter a deep flow. I think it's because my brain isn't filled with noise from the day. I'm not distracted by my kids, Twitter, news stories that make me furious, etc., so I can focus on concentrated writing and thinking. Sometimes if I hit a wall, I will take a nap, and it's like wiping my slate clean. After I wake up, I can focus again."

Opinion Writer at The New York Times
Jessica Grose is the author of a new book Screaming on the Inside: The Unsustainability of American Motherhood. "Screaming" traces the historical, medical and cultural origins of so many of the unrealistic expectations that crush American mothers, and then shows how the pandemic was a moment where all those expectations came crashing down.
