‘An us and them divide’: Concerns hybrid work could disadvantage women

Proponents of remote work including tech giant Atlassian have raised concerns moves by most big companies to adopt hybrid work models may backfire by disadvantaging women and minority groups.

A survey by The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald this week found an overwhelming majority of the nation’s biggest companies plan to adopt hybrid work models permanently, allowing office-based employees to work at least part of the week from home. Atlassian has taken things a step further, adopting a “work from anywhere” model, allowing its employees to work anywhere it has a corporate entity and in a timezone aligned with colleagues.
